Unconventional Ph.D.
U.S. colleges and universities are graduating more individuals with doctoral degrees than ever before, yet 1 in 4 of them report having no definite commitment for employment or postdoctoral training at the time of graduation. Coupled with the increasing percentage of graduates who report taking jobs outside of academia, many individuals obtaining professional degrees need supports to help them navigate a career market that may bear little resemblance to the training they received in school.
My career path has been unconventional—from studying brain cancer genomics post-college to a senior leadership role at a federal civil rights agency—but in taking that path, I have been able to bring together my professional strengths and personal passions to have impact in multiple sectors. Now I help the next generation of graduates shape impactful professional lives, no matter their dissertation topic.
